At SACPS, we believe that Science is best learnt through curiosity, exploration and discovery. Our Science programmes provide students with opportunities to explore scientific concepts through hands-on investigations, inquiry and real-world experiences. Along the way, students develop important scientific attitudes such as curiosity, confidence and perseverance, while learning to appreciate and care for the world around them.
We nurture our students to become scientifically literate and confident learners who can apply their knowledge to everyday situations, make informed decisions and take responsible action. With a strong foundation in Science, our students are also encouraged to explore, innovate and discover the possibilities of STEM.
Our Programmes
Our programmes are designed to make Science meaningful, engaging and relevant to our students. Through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on activities, thematic programmes and learning journeys, students are given opportunities to connect scientific concepts with their everyday experiences and the world around them.
Applied Learning Programme (ALP) – STEM Sustainability
Our Applied Learning Programme in STEM Sustainability aims to empower our girls to thrive in STEM and develop a deeper appreciation of sustainability. Through authentic, hands-on experiences, students apply STEM concepts to real-world issues and explore how science and technology can contribute to a more sustainable future.
The programme encourages students to be curious, think critically and creatively, and develop a confident dare-to-try mindset. Through their learning experiences, our students grow to become informed and responsible advocates for environmental sustainability.
Mushroom Farming Workshop
As part of their learning about Cycles in Plants, our P3 students explored mushroom farming and discovered the important role mushrooms play as decomposers in nature. Through hands-on activities, students gained a deeper understanding of how natural processes contribute to healthy ecosystems while experiencing the joy of learning Science through exploration and discovery.
Upcycling Workshop
The enrichment programme equips the P4 students with relevant ecological literacy coupled with an understanding of Singapore’s Agri-Food ecosystem. Through this interactive and virtual workshop, the school hopes to groom students to be Eco stewards of the future.
Food Sustainability Workshop
Through a series of workshops, our P4 and P5 students explored the importance of food sustainability and our role in caring for the environment and community.
P4 students learnt about Singapore’s food situation and the importance of food security, while P5 students explored sustainable farming through natural farming techniques. Through practical activities, students connected their learning to real-world issues and developed a deeper appreciation of where our food comes from and how we can care for our natural resources.
The workshops also provided opportunities for students to develop the spirit of servant leadership, learning that caring for others and our environment can begin with small acts of responsibility, care and service.
Fun Science on Electricity
This programme provides P5 students with opportunities to develop a strong foundation in the concepts of electricity through hands-on experimentation and exploration. Students investigate electrical connections, series and parallel circuits, as well as conductors and insulators. Using the Electricity Kit, they construct and test simple circuits while discovering how electricity works in everyday life.
Learning Journeys
Our learning journeys extend Science learning beyond the classroom and provide students with opportunities to see, experience and apply what they have learnt in real-world settings.
P2 Nippon SG Aquaponics
As part of their learning journey, our P2 students explored how aquaponics and innovative farming technologies help Singapore grow food locally and use resources sustainably. Through a guided farm tour, students discovered how farmers care for different types of fish, recycle water and make the most of limited space. They also took part in a DIY aquaponics workshop, where they learnt simple plant propagation techniques and created a mini aquaponics system to bring home.
P3 Closed Loop Integrated Project (CLIP) at Tampines Park
Our P3 students explored sustainability through the Closed Loop Integrated Project (CLIP) at Tampines Park. They learnt about food security, food waste reduction, circular ecosystems and environmental stewardship.
Students discovered how Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae can be used to upcycle food waste from the community. They explored how the larvae can become feed for tilapia in the community pond, while the waste from the system can be used as fertiliser to grow vegetables. Through this experience, students gained a better understanding of how resources can be reused to create a more sustainable and circular system.
P6 Sentosa Nature Discovery
The P6 Sentosa Nature Discovery learning journey gives students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of adaptation and biomimicry. Through the workshop, students explore how structural and behavioural adaptations help plants and animals survive in different habitats.
Students also visit the indoor gallery and take part in a guided walk along the Imbiah Nature Trail, where they can observe adaptations in the natural environment and make connections between what they have learnt in the classroom and the world around them.
